Day 1 – Into the Sahara: Walking Trails and Nomadic Hospitality

Morning – Arrival and Trek Preparation

Meet your local guide and trekking team at the agreed meeting point in the Merzouga area. After a welcome briefing, learn about the route, walking conditions, safety guidelines, and equipment needed for the journey. Meet the camels and their handlers, who will help transport luggage, food, water supplies, and camping equipment.

Begin your adventure on foot through the desert landscape, passing sandy plains, rocky terrain, and areas of scattered desert vegetation. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the geography of the Sahara and explain how people and animals adapt to this extraordinary environment.

Midday – Traditional Moroccan Lunch

Take a relaxing break in a suitable shaded location and enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch, depending on the arrangements. Meals may include vegetable tagine, fresh salads, bread, and mint tea. Rest, refill your water bottles, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the desert.

Afternoon – Walking Toward Nomadic Territory

Continue your trek through the desert, discovering beautiful landscapes and learning about traditional caravan routes, desert plants, animal tracks, and the important role camels have played in Saharan life.

If arrangements have been made with a local family, enjoy an opportunity to discover their traditional way of life, learn about their tents and daily routines, and understand how they adapt to the desert environment. Visits take place with the family’s agreement and respect for local customs.

Evening – Sunset and Desert Camp

Arrive at your overnight camp in the late afternoon and admire the changing colors of the desert as the sun sets over the dunes. Relax, enjoy the surroundings, and observe the camel team settling the animals for the night.

Dinner is served at camp, featuring traditional Moroccan cuisine. Spend the evening sharing stories with your guide, discovering more about desert traditions, and enjoying the spectacular night sky.

Overnight: Desert camp or nomadic-style camp, according to the confirmed itinerary.

Day 2 – Nomadic Encounters and a Full Day of Desert Walking

Early Morning – Sunrise in the Sahara

Wake up early to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the desert at sunrise. After breakfast, which may include Moroccan bread, olive oil, jam, cheese, eggs where available, and mint tea or coffee, prepare for another day of exploration.

Morning – Trek Across Dunes and Desert Plains

Set off on foot through a changing landscape of golden dunes, sandy trails, and open desert plains. The walking pace is adapted to the group, allowing time for photographs, short breaks, and enjoying the scenery.

The camels accompany the group as arranged, carrying essential supplies and equipment. Your guide will explain how nomadic communities traditionally moved in search of grazing areas and water, and how camels have supported transportation, trade, and daily life in the desert.

Midday – Lunch and Rest Stop

Stop for a picnic-style lunch in a suitable shaded area or at a prearranged camp location. Enjoy time to relax, drink water, and recover before continuing the trek. Your guide may also introduce basic desert navigation techniques and explain how to prepare for changing weather and terrain.

Afternoon – Visit with a Nomadic Family

Continue toward a nomadic family or community that has agreed to welcome visitors. This cultural encounter offers a chance to learn about traditional desert life and local hospitality.

Depending on the family’s activities and preferences, you may discover how traditional tents are constructed, learn about livestock and natural resources, hear about local customs, and understand the role of camels in everyday life. Share traditional Moroccan mint tea and conversation with the help of your local guide.

These encounters are intended to be respectful and authentic rather than staged performances. Photography is only permitted with the family’s consent.

Late Afternoon – Continue to the Second Camp

Resume walking toward your second overnight location, enjoying views of the dunes, rocky plateaus, or wide sandy valleys, depending on the route. Arrive at camp with time to relax before sunset. A short camel ride may be arranged if available and included in your package.

Evening – Traditional Dinner and Desert Stories

Enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner around camp. Spend the evening listening to local stories, learning about traditional desert travel, and discovering the relationship between people, animals, and the natural environment. On clear nights, enjoy stargazing away from city lights.

Overnight: Desert camp or nomadic-style camp, according to the confirmed itinerary.

Day 3 – Sunrise Trek, Camel Experience, and Return

Early Morning – Sunrise and Breakfast

Wake up early to enjoy one last sunrise over the Sahara. After breakfast, pack your personal belongings and prepare for the final walking stage. Before leaving, ensure that all personal items and waste are collected to help preserve the desert environment.

Morning – Final Walking Expedition

Begin the final trek along a route selected by your local guide. Walk across sandy trails and open plains while enjoying the last views of the Sahara. Stop at scenic points for photographs and short breaks, and learn more about desert ecology, nomadic traditions, and the challenges of living in an arid environment.

Late Morning – Camel Experience and Trek Completion

Depending on your package, enjoy a short camel ride or spend time with the camels and their handlers before continuing on foot to the designated meeting point, village, or transfer location.

The exact finish point depends on the confirmed itinerary and transport arrangements.

Lunch and Departure

Enjoy lunch at an agreed location if included in your package. After the final briefing, say goodbye to your local guide and trekking team. Return transportation can be arranged as an additional service or included in a customized package.
