Best Time to Visit Merzouga

Merzouga is in the Sahara, so the season changes your experience a lot. Here is a simple guide from our local team. Weather varies from year to year, so check the forecast before you travel.

Spring (March to May)

Warm days and pleasant evenings: one of the best times to visit. Wind and sand storms are more common in spring, so keep a scarf for your face.

Summer (June to August)

Very hot in the middle of the day. Plan activities early in the morning or at sunset, drink plenty of water and rest in the shade at midday. A sunrise camel ride is a good choice.

Autumn (September to November)

The heat goes down and the light is beautiful. A great season for camps, camel rides and 4×4 tours.

Winter (December to February)

Sunny, mild days but cold nights in the desert, sometimes close to freezing. Bring warm layers if you sleep in a camp. Christmas and New Year are busy, so book early.

What to pack

  • Scarf or turban against sun and sand
  • Sunglasses, sun cream and a hat
  • Warm layer for the evening, all year
  • Closed shoes or sandals for the sand
  • A small backpack for the night in a camp
